Top 3 Resorts in Lake Tahoe For Intermediate Skiers and Snowboarders

Northstar California Resort, Truckee:

  • Reasons:

    • Northstar is well-known for its top-notch ski school and expansive beginner terrain. The resort offers a variety of blue intermediate that are groomed to perfection. The "Magic Carpet" surface lifts are great for first-timers, allowing them to practice without the intimidation of larger lifts.

    • For the stronger intermediate, runs on the backside that are groomed will be long and steep and offer plenty of challenges while still providing the smooth on-piste corduroy that Northstar is known for.

    • Northstar is not just about the skiing, it is about the full experience of being in the mountains at a luxury resort. The amenities at Northstar are top notch, it is a mini version of Whistler in the sense that there is a central village and you can walk to shopping, restaurants, ice-skating and all sorts of Apres. There is a lot more happening at Northstar than just learning to ski, and if you take in the whole experience it sets up a great family trip.

Heavenly, South Lake Tahoe:

  • Reasons:

    • Great views of the lake and massive intermediate terrain. The only resort where you can ski between California and Nevada. Most lifts are focused on intermediate terrain, glades, and world class groomers and cruisers.

    • South Lake Tahoe has night life, great apres and is right on the Lake. Heavenly is a good choice if you are looking for more than just a skiing experience, but a full fledged destination vacation with all amenities.

Palisades Tahoe, Olympic Valley:

  • Reasons:

    • Though renowned for its advanced and expert terrain, Palisades also boasts excellent intermediate zones. The best area to ski for intermediates would be the Alpine side of the mountain, taking the base 2 base gondola and exploring the Alpine side and the Sierra Crest. Other good lifts on the Palisades side for intermediates are Shirley Lake and Resort Chair.

    • There is a village area and great food and Apres on the Palisades side of the mountain.
